Sun-North Shepherd controls are state of the art electronic controls which are able to monitor many different regions of your animal facility. Shepherd controls will adjust individual sidewall panels and ridge outlets over the entirety of your building taking into account inside temperature and outside weather conditions and adjusting for swings in wind and rain directions. All livestock buildings create micro climates (very noticeable areas of temperature differences). Shepherd controls will monitor and adjust for these areas of temperature difference. Natural ventilation can save 65% of your energy cost (compared to all power and mechanical ventilation). Shepherd electronic controls will link to supplementary heating, cooling and humidity equipment and adjust accordingly. | ||
Linear Actuators |

Sun-North manufactures two different sizes of linear actuators, a medium duty (BX) with 1500 lbs of lift and heavy duty (BXX) with 2500 lbs of lift. The sizes range from 15” to 76” of travel meaning the largest actuator lifts a panel or curtain that covers a 76” or 1.95 m opening. | ||
Power Drives |

Sun-North’s new generation German made power drives are a state of the art answer to worry free panel and curtain operations. These compact gear drives are self-braking with worm wheel transmission complete with CSA approved electric motors with multi range voltage. Each drive has a built in linear limit switch system complete with working and stand by safety switches. All units are double/sinlge sided drives and are easily adaptable for potentiometer position feedback. Sun-North’s power drives can be operated during installation or during a power failure by a battery powered drill and an adapter. All Sun-North gear drives are enclosed in a weather tight poly enclosure. | ||

To complete a ventilation system and to optimize animal comfort it may be necessary to monitor and operate a ventilation system based on outside wind, rain and temperature conditions. To complete a ventilation system and to optimize animal comfort it may be necessary to monitor and operate a ventilation system based on outside wind, rain and temperature conditions. Sun-North manufactures the latest in rain and wind sensing through its WEEDO electronic sensing controls which are compatible with the majority of drives and controls on the market today. WEEDO operates when winds are between 12 and 35 mph and will override if barn temperatures exceed a preset threshold. WEEDO also has manual override and automatic reset if there is a power interruption. WEEDO is enclosed in a water proof case and has a visual display showing override conditions. The purpose of WEEDO is to close panels/curtains during high winds keeping the inside of a building from getting drenched from wind blown rain. WEEDO can be adjusted to activate when winds rise between 12 and 35 MPA and to reset when winds drop to between 8 and 24 MPA.
The Sun-North WEEDO rain sensor closes panels/curtains the moment it detects rain. WEEDO has a unique response feature that signals the controls the moment it starts to rain (compared to most systems that respond only after rain accumulation). WEEDO is not affected by dew and quickly resets when the rain stops. | ||
