It is important to make use of the ridge of a barn or facility to maximize the entry of light and also to naturally exhaust foul or dusty air. Wind and heat will naturally cause air to move through the sidewall opening, across the building and then this incoming air will naturally rise and flow out of the ridge opening. Two things are happening - the air is being warmed and rises (from internal building and animal heat) and the ridge has become a vacuum (because air is flowing across it) drawing air up and out the same as a chimney in a house functions.
Insulated Poly Chimney |

Sun-North did not invent the chimney, we would like to say we did but our forefathers created many variations for agricultural facilities. |
Poly Ridge Lite |

Sun-North manufactures several variations and sizes of Ridge Lite and can be custom made to retrofit an existing barn ridge system or tailor made to suit a new facility. |
Luma-Lite Dome |

Sun-North manufactures the Luma-Lite Dome in standard sizes of 36” and 48” but can be custom made to suit your situation and is readily adaptable to retrofitting an existing ridge system. Some dairy producers prefer the extension of one roof area which creates a leeward wall opening for exhausting air. Sun-North will manufacture moveable panels or curtains with manual or automatic drives to allow the closure of the opening. |
