Summit Insulated Curtains

The well worn adage is “in order to ventilate you have to insulate”. What this means is heat transfers quickly through a single layer of metal siding or plastic etc. because there is no resistance and leaves the moisture behind in the building condensing on walls etc. Each time you place a layer of insulation you create resistance (dead air). This means you are containing or resisting the heat transfer through a wall or ceiling which then allows you to ventilate drawing off foul moist air. Each type of livestock facility has its own insulation requirements from as little as R 4 to R 40. If there is little to no insulation it becomes necessary to ad expensive conventional heat so that you can ventilate. R=Resistance.

Sun-North manufactures the only 10 layer insulated curtain with an estimate R factor of R 4.5. The Summit insulated curtain has 8 internal layers of non-breathable woven polyethylene. These layers don’t absorb moisture or mildew. Sun-North then offers a number of options for external and internal weather shell to black out or allow light penetration through the Summit curtain.

Depending on the fabric selected this light penetration varies from 0% to 14%. The outer and inner weather fabric shell is 6 oz to 9 oz woven premium coated Polyolefin fabric with enhanced UV protection.

The customer selects the inside and outside coating of the outer shell and also the coating on the inner shell. For example, the outer shell coating can be white silver and the inside shell can be white silver allowing no light penetration.

Sun-North also sews continuous seams horizontally through the length of each curtain. These seams stop the curtain from bulking up while trying to fold neatly down onto a sill.

Summit Single Layer Non-Insulated Curtain

This standard clear curtain is 6.4 oz (most popular) and up to 10 oz and is made from premium coated woven Polyolefin fabric. The coatings contain a flexomeric additive which improves abrasion resistance, seam integrity and hydrostatic resistance, along with enhanced UV protection.

This fabric allows 75% light penetration but no visual (can’t see images through it) and is also available with a fire rated coating.

View Brite Curtains

The View Brite is a clear 14 oz laminated fabric. It is extremely weather resistant, UV stabilized, cold crack resistant, remains flexible and anti-mildew. This fabric appears as a clear material with an internal grid of polyester cord and allows 95% light penetration with 40% visual meaning you can see images through the fabric.

This fabric can be used as a complete sidewall curtain or can be incorporated as a panel at the top or middle of a curtain system.

Vinyl Sidewall Fabric

When the demand for very indestructible material is requested then the 12 to 18 oz reinforced heavy duty translucent polyethylene vinyl fabric is the #1 option.

Typically, this material is used in high sidewall steel structures with wide bay openings of 18 ft to 25 ft. This material is white in colour, has high UV stabilization and up to 40% light penetration with no visual.

Sun-North manufactures a complete line of hardware to operate such fabric panels, manually or automatically.

Breathable Curtains

A breathable curtain allows, depending on the fabric selected, 6 to 25% air movement through the fabric. In storage buildings and livestock facilities some air movement will keep room conditions dryer and fresher without permitting rain and snow penetration. There are two alternative fabrics depending on use, woven polypropylene and HDPE (high density polyethylene). Both fabrics range in weight from 6 oz to 8 oz and are typically black in colour. This fabric has a high UV stabilization rate and is mild dew resistant.

Sun-North can combine this with other fabrics or clear plastic to customize a curtain for your specific needs.

Fabric Doors

Fabric doors are often used as commodity shed doors, agri. doors, roller doors, track screen doors as they have many advantages over conventional doors:

(1) will span greater widths of opening
(2) considerably less expensive
(3) much lighter and therefore less stressful on operating hardware.
(4) A breathable fabric can be used permitting minimal ventilation within the building which will assist in keeping the housed inventory or livestock dryer.
(5) Most fabrics allow from 10% to 30% light penetration allowing ease of visual contact within the building.

This fabric varies from 6 to 12 oz coated PVC or HD polyethylene and has several colour options. This fabric is rot resistant, UV stabilized and is also available in a fire rated coating.

Town & Country Park Pavillion Enclosures

All communities have park pavilions that are limited in their use because of inclement weather conditions. Sun-North uses a wide range of Summit fabrics to create affordable, movable barriers against driving rain and to enhance shade conditions.

This fabric can range from no light and no air penetration to 50% light and 50% air movement. Sun-North uses 6 oz to 12 oz coated PVC with several colour options and HDPE (high or low density polyethylene). All fabric is rot resistant, UV stabilized and available in a fire rated coating.

Sun-North manufactures a wide range of hardware from inexpensive to completely automatic to drop down or roll up fabric sidewalls.

Interior Building Dividers

There are numerous situations within existing buildings where dividing up the floor space will make for more economical use or allow a specialized application of a given area either permanently or temporarily. Sun-North can manufacture insulated or non insulated curtain walls that can be 10 ft to 60 ft high and any length. These curtain walls can be stationary, roll up, fold up, fold to the side or drop down.

Sun-North can install fabric doors within the curtain walls and can incorporate see through plastic windows in the curtain or door. Fabric can also be used for specialized situations such as welding since fabrics that have a high fire code rating can be selected.

Sun-North can use 6 oz to 12 oz PVC and 6 oz to 18 oz polyethylene polypropylenes and a variety of clear and polyester materials to meet a customer’s specific needs. Also Sun-North manufactures a wide range of hardware from inexpensive to completely automatic.

Parlour Curtains

For increased comfort in the milking parlour an 8 oz to 18 oz poly vinyl white curtain fabric is used. Typically the curtain is fastened along the header or ceiling and placed between the main barn or holding area and the milking parlour.

The fabric is very rugged and not susceptible to animal damage and is complete with edge strips that will seal to reduce drafts.

Typically this curtain has a centre roll sleeve that contains a power drive that quickly rolls the curtain up to the ceiling and out of the way.

Sun-North can incorporate flexible see through plastic windows in the curtain and also remote electronic controls for operation.
