Twenty years ago it was quite common to see the complete ridge of a livestock facility open from 10” to 24” and the entire length of the barn. Engineers would design a roof and/or door system to close off this opening. This method was fraught with numerous problems
- All buildings, due to varying wind and temperature swings, experience pressure diversity from end to end. This means cold air can actually be drawn in one end and hot air exhausted out the opposite end.
- A continuous ridge opening is difficult too close up and operate because of the amount of hardware needed and the freezing up of that hardware.
- Leaking into the attic of the building was very common which would contaminate insulation and rot or rust building components.
